Well, that was methodical. A bit disinterested.  Somewhat clinical. And occasionally quite lazy.  For all that I was apprehensive about the Wolfpack coming in and their wins over ranked teams, the Hoos left no doubt who was the better team and who was going to win.  They dispatched the Wuffies 68-51 behind a career high 25 points from Devon Hall on just 9 field goal attempts, and 17 from Kyle Guy, who hit all three of his treys in the second half.

NC State is not nearly as tough on the road as  they are in their skating rink.  Now we will see how Virginia fares on the road, having ended the 4-of-5 homestand 5-0 in the ACC.  The next two and 5 of the next 7 are away from the JPJ.

It wasn’t one of the team’s best games, and this isn’t one of my best game stories, which is pretty fitting.  It looked like the team came out, took control, then got a little bored.  In a long season, games like this are almost necessary. As a coach you don’t settle for it and hit your teaching points, but a low-stress 17-point win is a good thing.

Virginia ground out a 10-2 start to the game and raced out of the locker room 7-0 to start the second half, then engaged auto-pilot. That’s pretty much the story of this game, although much pounding of keys has been inspired by the 15 turnovers and State’s 14 offensive rebounds.

Oh, well, and this:

Concussions and Blood

Can’t leave a Pillar of Salt Pick out of the story.
