The Cavaliers picked up another big commitment on the gridiron Tuesday, four days after tailback Ronnie Walker announced he was transferring from Indiana to Virginia.

This time, the good news came from Class of 2021 four-star linebacker Josh McCarron, a 6-foot-4 215-pounder from Archbishop Murphy High School in Everett, Wash. Though he is from the Pacific Northwest, UVa was not the only school in the Old Dominion to offer McCarron — Virginia Tech also did. Additionally, the Wahoos beat out Cal, Boise State, Washington State, and Northwestern in landing McCarron. He is a smart kid who also held offers from a few Ivy League schools, and he told 247Sports that he’d like to attend the McIntire School of Commerce.

In the same article, he said he plans to sign in December but won’t enroll at UVa until the summer of 2021 so that he can enjoy a full senior year. He also plays lacrosse at Archbishop Murphy.

In addition to linebacker, McCarron has lined up at defensive end and on offense for his school, but he is likely going to be slated at linebacker in Charlottesville.

It is a great day when Virginia’s coach can celebrate a big-time commitment with a video from the Cavaliers actually beating the Hokies on the field, and that recruiting target actually chose UVa over Tech.
