On Saturday, Virginia received a verbal pledge from Class of 2023 quarterback LaNorris Sellers, the first recruit for that particular group of future Wahoos.

Sellers, who has not received a star rating yet from any recruiting service, chose UVa over offers from (so far) Virginia Tech, Washington State, Appalachian State, and Georgia State.

Sellers, a rising junior at South Florence High School in South Carolina, already has intriguing size at 6-foot-3, 215 pounds, and seems to possess the versatile skill set coveted by coach Bronco Mendenhall and the rest of Virginia’s staff. During his prep sophomore season, Sellers passed for 1,077 yards and 12 touchdowns while recording 618 yards and 13 TDs on the ground.

Sellers could be one of Virginia’s next “Thorterbacks” after Brennan Armstrong moves on, likely after 2022, but he will have to contend with the other QBs on the roster in 2023, which by then should include, at the very least, Ira Armstead (who is a redshirt freshman this fall), Jacob Rodriguez (true freshman this fall), Jay Woolfork (true freshman this fall), and Davis Lane (true freshman next fall).

It’ll be exciting to see the pieces that come together to form UVa’s 2023 recruiting class, but it appears to be off to a good start with Sellers, a promising prospect as a signal-caller.
