After consecutive, heart-stopping wins on the road, the Hoos returned home to battle Duke on Homecomings weekend. UVA delivered a 48 to 0 thumping to the Blue Devils.

The only drama in the game was how many true freshmen would see action.Β A season high ten got into the game.

Let’s review their contributions.

Duke Game

In alphabetical order…

Malachi Fields – Wide Receiver: Fields earned the first start of his young career against Duke. He caught 1 pass for 19 yards in 2 targets. Fields had 6 yards after the catch on his reception.

Ty Furnish – Offensive Line: Furnish played at center during the 4th quarter giving Olu Oluwatimi a much deserved rest. Furnish did not record any stats during the game although the box score does not record OL stats.

Mike Green – Linebacker: Green played on special teams on the kick coverage unit. He did not record any stats during the game.

James Jackson – Linebacker: Jackson had a busy day as he was on the kick and punt return and coverage units while also getting on the field in the defense late in the game. Jackson made 3 tackles (1 solo, 2 assisted) during the game. He also had a thunderous hit on Duke’s QB on an edge rush during the 4th quarter.

Noah Josey – Offensive Line: Josey also saw action late in the game on the UVA offensive line. He did not record any stats during the game (box score doesn’t report OL stats).

Langston Long – Defensive Back: Long saw action late in UVA’s defensive backfield. He made 1 tackle (assisted) during the game. This was Long’s 5th game played which negates his ability to redshirt this season.

Jacob Rodriguez – Football Player: It was a mostly quiet day for Rodriguez against Duke. He had no receptions on 1 target. And he gained 5 yards rushing on just 2 carries. He also had one fumble on the day which was lost. Rodriguez also played on the kick return unit against the Blue Devils.

Jonas Sanker – Defensive Back: Sanker was an active participant on multiple special teams units. He also saw action in UVA’s defensive backfield. Sanker earned positive fan reviews for his efforts on defense where he was credited with 3 tackles (2 solo, 1 assisted). This was Sanker’s 5th game played which negates his ability to redshirt this season.

West Weeks – Linebacker: Weeks has solidified himself as a main cog in UVA’s defense on obvious passing downs. The Duke game was no different. Against the Blue Devils, he had a sweet, leaping pass deflection. And he also made 5 tackles during the game (3 solo, 2 assisted). Weeks also saw some action on special teams against Duke.

Jay Woolfolk – Quarterback: Woolfolk saw his second playing action on the season in mop up duty against Duke. He did not attempt a pass. But he did gain 38 yards on 5 carries (7.6 yards per carry average) with a long rush of 14 yards.
