Clemson Tigers

Clemson has struggled to get over the hump in recent years, hovering below the middle of the ACC and peaking as an NIT squad. There was hope last year that a push could be made in Jaron Blossomgame's final season, but no such luck. Can former role players elevate their games this year to replace his production and finally get Brownell back to the NCAA Tournament?

Outlook:

Discussion of Clemson's offseason of course begins with the loss of all-ACC combo forward Jaron Blossomgame, who leaves a lot of question marks behind him, taking his 18 points and 6 rebounds per game to the NBA. Also gone are veteran scoring guard Avry Holmes (10 ppg, 44% 3PT) and workman center Sidy Djitte (7.7 rpg, 0.8 blkpg). However, they bring back the core of their back court, including double digit scorers Shelton Mitchell and Marcquise Reed, who will look to take over the team's leadership role. Elijah Thomas will become the focal point in the post, an imposing shot blocker who swatted 1.2 shots in only 17 minutes a game. However, there's still a talent deficit and a lot of turnover, working in 6 new players, 4 in the front court alone, is going to lead to some inconsistencies. A favorable ACC slate with Carolina the only top-third opponent they have to play twice will give them an opportunity to accumulate enough wins to get back to the NIT, but this isn't the season the Tigers end their 6 year NCAAT drought.
