North Carolina Tar Heels

Coming off the 2017 national title, the Tar Heels took a small step back last year with a less star-studded roster than they're used to. That will change this year with the arrival of a heralded freshman class joining a strong core of seniors.

2017/18 ACC Opponents:

Home & Away: Duke, Louisville, Miami, NC State
Home Only: Florida State, Notre Dame, Syracuse, Virginia, Virginia Tech
Away Only: Boston College, Clemson, Georgia Tech, Pitt, Wake Forest

Outlook:

The knock on Duke and Kentucky the last few years has been that they haven't had the veteran starters to integrate with the five-star freshmen. To win big with one-and-dones, they need to be complementary to established upperclassmen. Well, that describes Carolina this year. The senior starting trio of Kenny Williams, Cam Johnson, and Luke Maye would be coveted by most ACC squads, and the addition of super-frosh White and Little just loads Carolina up with potential. Felton's absence is addition by subtraction. There are some question marks on the bench, but there are enough talented, experienced bodies that two or three of the so-far-disappointing sophs and juniors should emerge to be reliable, ACC-level rotation players. The schedule is nice too. Their Home/Away rotation this year picks up the beatable, transfer-dependent pair of Louisville and Miami on top of their regular pairing with the transfer-laden Wolfpack, and their away slate is loaded up with gimme's like GT, Pitt, and Wake, meaning they get to play their tougher matchups (FSU, Cuse, UVA, and VT) on their home floor. Expect Carolina to be a Top 10 team this year and a justifiable favorite for the league crown.
