Virginia Tech Hokies

The Hokies have ridden an efficient small ball attack to the middle of the ACC pack and appearances in the 8/9 NCAAT game for the last two seasons. Before a big senior class graduates, can they put it all together to give Virginia Tech its first ever great season?

If there's ever going to be a "this is the year" for Tech, this one is it. It's Sweet 16 or bust for what on paper looks to be the best Virginia Tech team in a long time, if ever. Their primary rotation is stacked with ballers, starting with a PG in Justin Robinson who won't get near the recognition he deserves, one of the Top 5 in the ACC by my estimation, maybe Top 3. There are scorers all over the wings, with Hill, Alexander-Walker, Clarke, and Outlaw all proven threats and freshman Nolley arrives with a good scoring reputation. Oh, and for the most part, they all can shoot the 3 in addition to getting to the rim. Kerry Blackshear is a steady big man at the 5, though he lacks a competent backup with the dismissal of locker-room-headache Khadim Sy. Their small ball lineup does leave them vulnerable on defense and rebounding, but we think that there's enough offense and veteran presence (four seniors, plus a RS Jr in Blackshear) to challenge for the ACC's top tier, and maybe even a good bet to make a deep NCAA Tournament run for the first time ever.
